Question: I get to a certain point in working on every project and then I find that I start to procrastinate. Then what would have taken me a week to finish has now been sitting undone for a year and half! And this isn’t the first time. I don’t know what to do. I’ve even tried subliminal procrastination programs. Any suggestions?
Answer: Usually the procrastination begins when the next steps is just too big. You don’t know how to do and you don’t know where to get help. Or, in some cases, you won’t allow yourself to ask for help. If that’s the case, just break it down into smaller steps until you’ve broken it down to a step that is something you can manage. Then do it. If you get stuck again, go throughout he same process. Chunking things down into smaller little bites works.
The other major cause of procrastination is when you get to a point where your self-limiting beliefs kick in. When that’s the sticking point, notice what the thought was you had when you stopped. What is the thought you have every time you think about picking up the project again. Is that still true about you or is there a way you can reframe it to move forward?
