So you want to write a book, that’s great!
You know your topic, you’ve studied, you’ve learned, you’ve had success and maybe you’ve even successfully taught others. But now you’ve come to a sticking point.
You’re a little scared to take your business to the next level and become a published author. You don’t feel like you are at the same level as the gurus you’ve been learning from on your path to discovering what ever it is you now want to write about. So you’re feeling a little insecure in your status as an expert, right?
So who says you have to be an expert? Who says you have to wait until you are just like all the gurus you follow?
When you think about it, that’s not even possible. You do realize that those gurus you look up to would never have gotten to the place of being gurus if they were afraid to put themselves out there in the marketplace, as an unknown, and write that first book.
Yes, it would be great if the gurus in your industry came out and rallied around your content. You could wait around for one of them to crown you the next whoever or whatever, but it isn’t necessary.
You can become a leading authority right now by following a couple steps to get started.
Now, in the scheme of things, it doesn’t influence the quality of what you are creating with your work or it’s ability to help people whether every guru in your space endorses or you none do. In fact, you may just have something to teach them! But I understand that it’s importune to you so I’ll give you a couple tips to make it happen.
So you want guru endorsements?
A great way to get guru support is to send a synopsis and a chapter asking for their feedback as an expert in the field that you admire. It’s much more likely you will get an endorsement from them and they will support it in the marketplace, because you asked for their input.
Are you ready for some conflicts?
If you’re coming from a position of disagreement with what the big dogs say, there may be some flack coming in your direction. You can’t tell someone the world is round when everyone has always believed it was flat and not have some controversy. You have to ask yourself if your belief in what you have to say is strong enough to want to put it out there and help people.
If you can handle the heat, conflict is good. Conflict makes great TV, radio and feature articles in magazines and newspapers. So creating controversy by upsetting the applecart could make you a media darling.
How does this product serve you?
You may have heard me say this before, but I don’t approach product creation from a cookie cutter prospective.
So before you write a book or create a product, look at 4 things:
1. What do you want your life and your business to look like?
2. How do you want this book to facilitate that?
3. What comes after the book, where does it take you?
4. Where does it take your readers?
Bottom line, your business and your products have to serve you as well as your clients.
