Does a positive attitude and faith lead to success? I don’t know the answer to that question for sure, but I have faith that it does. What I do know is that not having those two things are two big strikes against me, or you, being successful.
In Robert Collier’s classic, “The Secret of the Ages”, he talks about faith and positive attitude as being the difference between swimming against the current or swimming with the current and having the current help you along.
While I was reading that particular section I started thinking about different people having different beliefs and faith in different things. According to my ex-husband I am naive and sometimes easily hoodwinked. When accused of this my response has always beeb that it may be true and I prefer it that way. I don’t want to be mistrustful and jaded.
My next thought while reading went to a conversation I had yesterday with a woman who said she was looking for a home based business. She hadn’t found anything ‘legitimate’. So I asked her what she was looking for that she hadn’t found. Her response was that she didn’t want one of those MLM things or people asking her for $3-400.
She has beliefs about ‘those MLM things’ that are obviously negative. She wants to get into a legitimate business without it costing even $300. It seems to me that she’s probably not going to end up being successful in a network marketing business. Lots of people have negative beliefs about that industry whether they’ve ever been involved or not, and that’s ok. Or is it?
I have to admit there was a part of me that felt sorry for the huge opportunity she has closed herself off from with her beliefs. The reason why is because there’s another old saying, “The way you do one thing is the way you do everything.”
People may believe that they can be negative about some things and still have an overall positive attitude. But is that really possible? I’m not sure if it’s about the percentage of time you have negative thoughts or how strong those negative opinions are.
Are there areas of your life where you could be cutting yourself off from abundance by the beliefs that you hold or a lack of faith?
Another area where faith and a positive attitude show up is in our self-esteem by way of our self-talk.
For me, I am being super aware of my self-talk these days. I have faith, but sometimes I say things to myself that come from deeply rooted tapes in my head from my childhood and being told so many negative things about myself. I recognize that no matter how much success I’ve had in my life, and I’ve had a ton, there’s still that little dark corner I haven’t gotten rid of. I’m not perfect, nor do I expect that of myself or anyone else.
Faith and a positive attitude keep spiraling higher and higher as we grow and change and become more of who we are meant to be. It’s never ending process. It’s also one we must remain vigilant to.
For example, this morning I caught myself saying something negative about me to my dog. Yes I talk to my dog, he’s my furry baby. I had to correct a mistake I made in banking and I said out loud, “Mommy’s having trouble already this morning.” I immediately caught that and said, (also out loud) “No I’m not. I’m going to quickly take care of this and everything is fine.” I called the bank and did just that. Five minutes on the phone and it was taken care of, no problem.
I don’t ever want to be like what I saw in that woman I talked to yesterday. I don’t ever want to close myself off from opportunities because I’m jaded, have already made up my mind, have negative self-talk or because I’m scared of trying something where I might fail.
I choose to have a positive attitude and faith. I consciously choose that every single day.
How about you?
