It only takes one thing to change your life. Just a simple shift in direction takes you to a whole new place. Unfortunately, it’s usually something catastrophic that does the trick. But does it have to be? No.
Because the price you often pay for having your life instantly rearranged can be very high–divorce, losing your job, the death of a loved one, illness or a serious accident.
What can you do to get a new perspective on your life, and the new life you want, instantly, without having your life turned upside down?
Well, let’s take a look at that.
Wouldn’t it work better if you had a plan to do this yourself before one of those situations did it for you?
If your priorities are instantly recognized and shifted in the face of one of those situations, what can you do to create that same change without the aid of those situations?
And are there signs in your life now that you’re just not aware of?
For example, 10 years ago, in 1999, I had a vague feeling that there was a shift coming, but I didn’t know what. And I thought I was paying pretty good attention and even looking for signs…apparently not well enough.
It took being hit with a ton of bricks for me to see it. I was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Since then, and almost instantly, everything in my life has changed for the better. One of the reasons I do the work I do is to give people the knowledge of the lessons I learned without having to live through a traumatic experience.
Although not an enjoyable process, even at the time I was going through it, I knew there was a big positive to come out of something that could be so devastating.
I was determined to focus on finding that positive end rather than focusing on the worst-case scenario. For me, that made all the difference in how it affected the rest of my life.
Like I said, before the diagnosis I had a vague feeling there was something bigger I was supposed to be doing with my life. After the diagnosis, I made it my number one priority to find out what that was.
Within a month, the focus of my life was totally different.
I quit my very cushy job immediately and my husband and I prepared to move from Mexico, where we had lived for the last 6 years, back to the States.
I flew up to Scottsdale, bought a house in 3 days and we moved with no prospects of a job for either of us. In fact, I had determined that my days of working for someone else were over.
Trusting in the Universe, just knowing where we were guided to go, we made the transition quickly.
After eleven months of deep personal growth work to be fully prepared and meditations asking what I was to do, I found my purpose. Since then I have been living the life of my dreams again…but now it’s a different dream than hanging out on the beach and the easy life.
I realized my passion and my purpose is teaching people how to realize their dreams through my writing, mentoring, course and live events.
The first program I ever created has continued to aid and inspire me on my path, as it will for you. It’s Change One Thing, Change Your Life. You can check it out by clicking on the cover here. ===>>>
Every day I think about what is most important to me in my life. I feel blessed I have the luxury of my work being to my passion and helping them to build a life and a business on their own.
It’s a much different life than what I had pictured before the diagnosis, but also a much more fulfilling one and one I’m not sure I would have realized it as fast, as profoundly or if ever without that catalyst. But you don’t have to wait for something like that to happen to you!
Here are 3 steps you can take today to get the life you want right now:
#1 Put yourself in a place of total freedom by asking yourself, “If I could start over today, what 5 things would be different in my new life?”
#2 Ask yourself, “What have I been holding on to until now that I’d immediately drop if my life depended on it?” Let it go, it’s over!
#3 While you’re at it, ask “Who have I been unable to forgive, including myself?” Forgive them and yourself because those old tapes wear down your energy every day whether you’re conscious of it or not.
This article came up in my Facebook memories and I clicked over to take a look. Since so much has changed in the last 9 years, an update seemed appropriate.
In 2009 as I wrote this article I was just about to do the very last Women’s Business Empowerment Summit. I was the first women to create a big 3-day multi-speaker event like this for women speakers, authors, and experts. And now it was coming to an end.
Many things were coming to an end for entrepreneurs in general as they struggled during those next few years with how the economy affected their lives and businesses.
Without a crystal ball, I never imagined the domino effect that would lead me to make a change in my life in 2011.
I moved back to Cabo and took a hiatus from my business for a few years.
I got back to living the simple life instead of spending much of my time in hotels and airports. No clients, no fans, nobody asking for my advice.
Not one person asked me what I had done in the States after leaving Cabo more than a decade before.
It’s true that people are so wrapped up in their lives they really don’t care about your drama.
Well, my hiatus ended when I felt called to step up and give women an alternative to being treated like an old person preparing for death or feeling like they had nothing left to contribute once the nest was empty and the career was nearing the end.
It was time for women to be empowered and ageless; body, mind, and soul.
That meant giving women real information and how diet and nutrition played a role in their ability to be vital and youthful, having a body and brain that supported the age they felt like on the inside.
This was an unexpected turn of events, but that’s how life works.
I love what I’m doing now as much as I did when I started my business in 2001.
New topics, new adventures, new amazing women to connect with and support.
Cabo had changed while I was gone, and so had I. Since I’ve been back these last 7 years, Cabo and I both continue to get better with age, growing and changing to become more of what we are meant to be.
Until next time, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Just comment on this post here or on Facebook.
