3 Keys to Reaching Your Goals Now

It’s that time of year again, time to set your yearly goals. The question is, do you have a system in place that helps you with reaching your goals year after year?

With a simple system, you can make your goal setting session a pleasure and your achievements easy to measure and your results a breeze.

You have the opportunity in front of you right now to do great things. Set a plan and prioritize your year. Break it down to your month, your week, and your day. You set up each day so you do what will get you where you want to go. Simple, right?

Did Someone Mention Sabotage?

Without a plan, it’s too easy to be sidetracked by what other people think you should be doing, or by your own fears. The next thing you know you have sabotaged yourself, but not in an obvious way, you’re too smart for that! Sabotage makes reaching your goals tougher than it needs to be.

Distractions show up as anything from a friend calling to an emergency that seems to need your immediate attention. 99% of the time they are convenient disguises for your fears, giving you an acceptable excuse to put off working toward your goal.

There are 3 keys to reaching your goals now

Key #1: Know What You Really Want

Being clear on who you are, what you’re here to do and what you’re going to do about that in terms of creating a blueprint for your life allows you to have a plan for creating goals that really serve you at the deepest level.

Your blueprint helps you say no and it helps you know when to say yes. You are then free to choose how you spend the rest of your day instead of work 20 hours and accomplishing little. Productivity has its perks, like your ability to have a life.

And your blueprint isn’t just a tool for productivity, it’s the out-picturing of your deepest desires. It’s the framework from which your soul expresses itself in your daily life.

It’s the foundation for everything you are and everything you create and hope to be in the future. What could be more important than that?

Key #2: Blueprint Your Top Goals

How can you put a date on the completion of a goal or project that’s important to you if you don’t have any idea how long it’s going to take you to do the pieces that go into it?

When you start a project break it down into manageable steps with deadlines that are accurate by looking at similar tasks you’ve done and approximate how much time you’ll need for completion. Knowing how much time the task will take and how much time you will have available to dedicate
to this project shows you how it fits within the framework of your whole life.

Do you see how simple the process becomes when you map out what needs to take place to complete by a certain date along with the time for each piece? Now you now know where this project will fit in your week, month, year and life. Having a goals program can help you with the process.

This prevents you from eating up your evenings and weekends with miscalculations of your time or working on tasks that aren’t moving you toward your goal.

Your calendar serves as a tool to set markers to make sure you stay on track to hit your date for the completion of the project.

Setting goals and then arbitrarily giving it a 1-year time frame is meaningless if you don’t also create the blueprint for the rest of the process that’s going to make that possible.

To hit your deadline you’ll want to have command over your time with an accurate calendar.

To Share or Not to Share?

A study at Brigham Young University shows that the more fully you step into your goal, the bigger chance you have of achieving it.

Here are the commitment levels and your chance of achieving it:

That’s a good idea                                                 10%

I’m going to do it                                                  25%

Setting a specific date                                         40%

Having a specific plan                                         50%

Telling someone else                                           60%

Set a specific time to share with someone      95%

So you pick what you’d like your chances of success to be and act accordingly.

Key #3: Easily Stay on Track

An attitude of gratitude is easily maintained with a gratitude journal. It keeps you focused on reaffirming all the abundance that is currently showing up in your life. It creates a pattern in your brain that says, “Of course I’m abundant. Look at all this evidence!” And it’s your daily reminder of where you re going and how well you are doing at getting there.
