One of the things I’ve noticed with the thousands of people I’ve worked with over the years is that the issues in your personal life are the same issues that come up in business? Funny how that works!
A lot of times the cause is trying to skip steps and reach the top in a single leap. If you weren’t born wearing a cape with an S on it, and I’m guessing you weren’t, it produces misery on two levels.
First, you’re attempting to jump over the small bumps in the road of life you would rather ignore than deal with. Do you have the false belief that you only have to deal with the big obstacles that actually block your path?
I hope not, because instead of dealing with little inconveniences when they come up you could find yourself dealing with big challenges, like life threatening illnesses, bankruptcy or divorce. Remember, you always have a choice to pay attention to the signals you are receiving when they are small bumps in the road rather than waiting until the become boulders blocking your path.
Do you think you are being expedient to jump over all those little things by telling yourself that you have no fears?
Do you charge on despite those queasy feelings in your stomach?
Stop, stop right now and pay attention! Those feelings need to be listened to. They are telling you there is something making you uncomfortable about what you are doing. Stop and ask yourself why. Really look at it. Don’t just push through and do it anyway.
Ignoring the warning signals your body and your mind are giving you only leads to disaster. You can’t ignore the signals without them getting bigger and bigger until they are so big you have no choice but to deal with them.
I’m not telling you to stay in your fears. There’s a difference between feeling fear and your higher self sending you a message. You’ll never be able to tell the difference if you don’t stop and pay attention. Then you can make an informed decision on what you want to do next rather than plowing through with your head buried in the sand or in the clouds.
Secondly, are you trying to leap all the way to the top because you are a perfectionist? That’s dangerous because when you think everything you do has to be perfect you don’t allow yourself to take the steps of being a work in progress.
Are you waiting to get started on something because you want to have all the pieces put together so you can do it all at once?
Are you waiting to have a new website for your business until you can do it right?
Are you waiting to write your book until you know exactly what is going to be in it?
Are you waiting to start your own business because you don’t know everything you need to know?
Are you waiting for the perfect time when you can just roll everything out in a perfect form like it has been that way all along?
These are all symptoms of perfectionism. I understand, you don’t want anyone to think you don’t know what you are doing. Being a work in progress takes a lot of self-confidence because it’s a very vulnerable place to be.
At the same time, if you try to do things in a single leap, misery is almost guaranteed. So, I’m suggesting to you that you start whatever it is you have been postponing until you have all your ducks in a row. Put it out there, get feedback, work it and re-work it.
In the last 10 years my life has been quite a journey. I started out with an idea to write a book about women’s prosperity, which still hasn’t been written. That project took a turn and became “Change One Thing, Change Your Life”. Things have taken many twists and turns since then between the personal and business development products and boot camps and summits I’ve created.
As far as I’m concerned they are completely intertwined. You can’t have true and lasting success in one area of your life without also being healthy and your own personal version of balanced.
I’ve made a huge amount of changes to my websites, my title, the different ways I provide services to you and the expanded focus of my business over the last 10 years, as have many other people who have been in business long term. It’s a good thing. We all continually grow and change and I believe we should teach as we learn. Our gifts are meant to be shared. I can assure you I will continue to evolve before your eyes. I am committed to bring you opportunities and other experts to help you do the same.
Collaboration is key to your success. Once you have a clear blueprint for your success, your level of abundance at this point depends on your ability to connect and clearly communicate that message to the world. Share your knowledge and share your vision. I can assure you that I am committed to sharing my knowledge and vision with you.
Until next week, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Just comment on this post below.
