Will This Holiday Season Change Your Life?

It’s the holiday season and our thoughts are temporarily moving away from business to thoughts of how to give meaningful gifts to people we care about and maybe a few we just feel obligated to get something for.

I broke the habit of buying a bunch of gifts because I was “supposed to” during the 6 years I lived in Mexico and there was no shopping to speak of. I found that I didn’t really need all the things I had previously wanted just because other people had them or they were heavily advertised. I became accustomed to putting up all my Christmas decorations and a beautiful tree with no gifts under it.

I had plenty of time and loved to cook and bake back then so I got a great deal of joy out of baking my butt off and giving big boxes of homemade cookies and fudge to all my friends and sending more to work with my husband. I loved the enjoyment everyone got out of receiving these gifts.

It was something they wouldn’t have done for themselves that they really appreciated. That may have had something to do with why I was such a popular party guest; I brought things they could eat!

Since moving back to the states 10 years ago, I have avoided getting into the commercial trap of Christmas. Not running around like a crazy person shopping for gifts has freed up a lot of time to spend doing things that are more meaningful to me.

Some times you lose focus of why you are on the path to become wealthy and financially independent. The holidays serve as a good reminder.

Are you doing what you do to amass a fortune just so you won’t have to work anymore?

Are you doing it to give your kids a better life than you had?

Is there a purpose much bigger than what’s going on in your own life?

Is there something you feel compelled to share with the world?

Will having more money and more time allow you to share it in a bigger way?

I remember an Oprah show from a few years ago at Christmas time where she was in Africa. She gave thousands of children who had been orphaned by AIDS a day just for them. For days Oprah and her crew went from place to place giving to these children, many of whom had never had a pair of shoes or received a gift.

I don’t know who received the bigger gift in this situation. The joy of giving and watching those children receive was incredible for all involved, while at the same time it was so sad it became difficult to watch.

Oprah said it changed her life and her purpose. It had a profound effect on me by solidifying why I am doing what I do every day. Yes, I want to enjoy the affluent lifestyle that I have had the privilege of enjoying for much of my adult life. But more than that I feel a burning desire to help as many people as I can with the work I do and how I use the money I make from my work.

It is frustrating to me when I know there are people I can help (and you can help) to have a better life who just don’t take action. I know it’s not because they won’t spend the money, because many of them have and still don’t follow through. I have also given free teleseminars and free courses many times over the years so money isn’t the excuse.

I feel bad for these people because I know what they are missing. Unfortunately they don’t.

When so many with so little are able to do so much with what they have, are you fulfilling your destiny?

My holiday wish for you is this:
I want to see you fully offering your gifts to the world. I want you to life from your passion and purpose.

During this time of holiday joy, please take the time to reflect on what your purpose is and how well you are living it.
