Will This Holiday Season Change Your Life?

December 29, 2009

Collage of various Christmas images, made from...
Image via Wikipedia

It’s the holiday season and our thoughts are temporarily moving away from business to thoughts of how to give meaningful gifts to people we care about and maybe a few we just feel obligated to get something for.

I broke the habit of buying a bunch of gifts because I was “supposed to” during the 6 years I lived in Mexico and there was no shopping to speak of. I found that I didn’t really need all the things I had previously wanted just because other people had them or they were heavily advertised. I became accustomed to putting up all my Christmas decorations and a beautiful tree with no gifts under it.

I had plenty of time and loved to cook and bake back then so I got a great deal of joy out of baking my butt off and giving big boxes of homemade cookies and fudge to all my friends and sending more to work with my husband. I loved the enjoyment everyone got out of receiving these gifts.

It was something they wouldn’t have done for themselves that they really appreciated. That may have had something to do with why I was such a popular party guest; I brought things they could eat!

Since moving back to the states 10 years ago, I have avoided getting into the commercial trap of Christmas. Not running around like a crazy person shopping for gifts has freed up a lot of time to spend doing things that are more meaningful to me.

Some times you lose focus of why you are on the path to become wealthy and financially independent. The holidays serve as a good reminder.

Are you doing what you do to amass a fortune just so you won’t have to work anymore?

Are you doing it to give your kids a better life than you had?

Is there a purpose much bigger than what’s going on in your own life?

Is there something you feel compelled to share with the world?

Will having more money and more time allow you to share it in a bigger way?

I remember an Oprah show from a few years ago at Christmas time where she was in Africa. She gave thousands of children who had been orphaned by AIDS a day just for them. For days Oprah and her crew went from place to place giving to these children, many of whom had never had a pair of shoes or received a gift.

I don’t know who received the bigger gift in this situation. The joy of giving and watching those children receive was incredible for all involved, while at the same time it was so sad it became difficult to watch.

Oprah said it changed her life and her purpose. It had a profound effect on me by solidifying why I am doing what I do every day. Yes, I want to enjoy the affluent lifestyle that I have had the privilege of enjoying for much of my adult life. But more than that I feel a burning desire to help as many people as I can with the work I do and how I use the money I make from my work.

It is frustrating to me when I know there are people I can help (and you can help) to have a better life who just don’t take action. I know it’s not because they won’t spend the money, because many of them have and still don’t follow through. I have also given free teleseminars and free courses many times over the years so money isn’t the excuse.

I feel bad for these people because I know what they are missing. Unfortunately they don’t.

When so many with so little are able to do so much with what they have, are you fulfilling your destiny?

My holiday wish for you is this:
I want to see you fully offering your gifts to the world. I want you to life from your passion and purpose.

During this time of holiday joy, please take the time to reflect on what your purpose is and how well you are living it.

Until next week, I’d love to hear your thoughts.  Just comment on this post on my blog at http://www.LynnPierce.com

House decorated for Christmas.

Can you believe it’s almost Christmas! It seems like Thanksgiving was just yesterday. I certainly got a blast of the winter cold and snow in Salt Lake City. It was 7 degrees when I landed. I will admit, I just do not have the clothes for that, so I’m happy to be back to the 70′s in Scottsdale this week.

Are There Dragons at Your Door?

December 17, 2009

Rainer Maria Rilke
Image via Wikipedia

Poet Rainer Maria Rilke says that our deepest fears are like dragons guarding our deepest treasures. That concept rings true for me.

Your beliefs are embedded into your conscious and sub-conscious mind based on the environment you live in. You can’t stop this process. You can only become aware of it so you can control the type of input you receive.

That’s why it’s possible to ballpark your income based on the income of your 5 closest friends. In fact I have a friend who coaches in the network marketing industry who can ask a few simple questions and usually pinpoint the level of monthly income a person makes, based on how they answer the questions.

You can’t afford to be around negative people. No matter how you tell yourself it doesn’t affect you, it does. You must rid your life of negative people because YOUR life depends on it.

You’ll never become rich hanging around broke people, and I’m talking emotionally and financially. Those people are sucking the life out of you. The sad part is you can’t fully see it until you completely release them.

That means you don’t have the energy you need to devote to your own preservation and growth.

When you associate with positive people you’re much more likely to see yourself in a positive light and to see the world full of opportunities for you.  That’s why so many positive, successful people start out as seminar junkies. It’s their first exposure to a world of positive, motivated people.

In fact several years ago I taught a six week course called “Transforming Your Dragons into Dollars”. It grew out of the realization that client’s business blocks came from their beliefs and behaviors 99%more than not having the right tools.

Your true beliefs are visible through your daily habits. I’m not talking about what you say you believe, but what you really believe. Because what you really believe is what you demonstrate daily through your actions.

So if you find yourself saying you believe one thing, and then having to justify or make excuses for why your life doesn’t reflect that at the  moment, you have dragons at your door!

These are the behaviors and beliefs you’ve been afraid to look at. Maybe because you’ve told yourself they are too big. Or, you can’t possi

bly shift them yourself and it’s just too painful to look when nothing can be done about it.

There are plenty of ways we avoid looking at our dragons. Every day you find reasonable and generally accepted diversions to keep you from having to tackle your dragons head on. Unfortunately, that’s also the same thing that keeps you from being as successful as you can be.
You’re aware of a few of your favorite diversions, but let me show you a few more you may not be aware are places you hide.

25 of the Most Common Dragon Diversions:

1.    Waiting until the last minute to make a decision, hoping it’s too late

2.    Not returning e-mails or calls in a timely manner

3.    Being late

4.    Forgetting time commitments you’ve made

5.    Bringing work into your personal time

6.    Not getting out of bed until you are rushed

7.    Paying bills late

8.    Not being organized

9.    Having a messy office

10.    Not asking clients for money you are owed

11.    Wasting time on unnecessary phone calls

12.    Not eating healthily

13.    Not exercising

14.    Not planning for the future

15.    Not keeping your word

16.    Not separating business and personal time

17.    Being a control freak

18.    Not taking personal time

19.    Answering calls or texting at inappropriate times

20.    Not being clear on what you want

21.    Not completing work on time

22.    Being sick

23.    Sleeping too much

24.   Watching too much TV

25.   Drinking too much alcohol

Ok, so how many of these do you use? Do you have a few tricks of your own I haven’t touched on here?

Bottom line…
You can’t change what you don’t recognize. These dragons will continue to haunt you and sabotage your success until you are no longer afraid to face them.

Once you look at them in the light of day you can take the negative energy that you’ve given them and turn it into positive, productive energy driven by your true passion and purpose. You can actually use it to move you forward on your path.

What is true for you is how you’re living your life right now, today.

The rationalizations you tell yourself are illusions. If your life doesn’t look the way you want it to look, stop looking outside yourself for the latest business tool, gadget or get rich quick scheme.

Look in the mirror. Be brave and face your dragons. Once you do, they aren’t so scary. If you would like someone to guide you through the process, get a mentor who works with these issues, like myself. You’d be surprised how strong you can be and how quickly things can shift for you when you have someone to guide you through the process.

Until next week, I’d love to hear your thoughts.  Just comment on this post on my blog at http://www.LynnPierce.com

Are These 3 Fears Killing Your Business?

December 16, 2009

View of Wall Street, Manhattan.
Image via Wikipedia

There are 3 dominant fears that keep showing up over and over in slow growing or stagnant businesses. You’ll notice all 3 of these fears  focus on outside influences. The good news is that all 3 are easily turned around by a small shift in your perception about how you deliver quality solutions to your clients.

Fear #1: Fear of Giving Too Much Away
“If I give my expertise away, no one will buy my product”

This fear is prevalent. I hear this over and over from clients in diverse industries. Since giving and receiving are opposite sides of the  same coin, if you embrace the laws of prosperity it’s impossible to hold this belief and be prosperous.

Of course you should be paid for your expertise and if you deliver high quality, you should be paid top dollar. But that doesn’t mean you don’t also give information away as a service to your clients and also as an introduction to potential clients.

Be confident enough in your ability to over-deliver to know you can afford to give your potential clients a sample of what you can do for them, and they’ll be so impressed they’ll want to do business with you.

From personal experience I can tell you that one giveaway I did several years nearly tripled my small and growing ezine list in just 3 weeks. Joint venture genius Mark Hendricks taught me how to do this with his 12 Days of Christmas promotion. That was the boost I needed to reach critical mass and get my message out to more people. And I did it by giving my knowledge away first!

Back then I started giving away the mini-course, “9 Steps to Getting to Yes Without Selling”. I built a separate list that equaled the size of my entire ezine list in only one week. And that was the week between Christmas and New Years!  That’s the power of giving your knowledge away.

Fear #2: Fear of Cross-Promotion
“If I promote someone else’s product, they’ll steal my clients”

If you are delivering a quality product and customer service, why would your clients leave you? This is one of the most irrational fears business owners have. When you have the confidence to promote other products to your clients, it shows that the relationship you are building means enough to you that you want them to have access to every possible tool that would make their life easier or their business more successful.

When your clients see that it’s not all about you, you’ll see your referrals increase and your client retention rate go up, not down. You are acting as their trusted advisor and exposing them to opportunities they may not hear about anywhere else.

Think back in your own experience. How many times have you been grateful for someone forwarding an email or calling to tell you about something that ended up being a huge benefit to you?

I witnessed a great demonstration of introducing complementary services in the Internet marketing industry many of the big Internet gurus.  For the last several years I have been watching these guys bringing Internet experts to their clients, sometimes several each month. Now that’s service! And guess what? All of their businesses keep on growing!

I know the effort I put out to bring my clients all the tools they need to make their Internet businesses successful has only enhanced my relationship with my clients. I have modeled much of the way I offer my teleseminars and promote other people’s products on what I learned from watching the best. And I only promote products and services I believe will be helpful to my clients.

Fear #3: Fear of Competition

“Too many people cover the same information I do.  I need to discredit them before my clients buy their products”

It’s OK to point out your strengths and even to state that you have a different philosophy on accomplishing goals than your competitors.  That’s part of what makes you unique. But don’t do it by poking holes in other businesses, and certainly, don’t attack them personally.

I would suggest that you look instead at how what you do may add another layer of knowledge to what others in your field offer. It’s highly likely that there are ways you can increase your business by entering into a cooperative relationship with your “competition”. You’ll find ways that you dovetail into each other’s areas of expertise in a way that will benefit both of your clients as long as your in alignment.

So don’t get caught in this dangerous trap in your business. I knew this wouldn’t be a problem with my expert faculty at “Women’s Business Empowerment Summit” the first year I created it because they are true professionals and their desire to see the attendees succeed was their primary concern. It’s been the same every year. They all knew the quality of their products and also the value of what the other speakers were offering and how it could compliment their products and services.

All of these faculty members exemplify the spirit of true professionalism. None are victims of these 3 fears that kill business growth. They give plenty of their knowledge away in teleseminars, mini-courses and special reports and videos. They are happy to refer products and services of other experts to their clients as well.

In that way, you give the greatest benefit to your clients and at the same time you’ll be rewarded with rapid growth in your business. Do you think this attitude of abundance and sharing has something to do with why the people I just told you about are considered top experts in their fields?

Think about it next time you see yourself heading towards one of these fears. If you come from a place of service to your clients, you will be rewarded with a business filled with many more happy clients.

Until next week, I’d love to hear your thoughts.  Just comment on this post on my blog at http://www.LynnPierce.com
