The Two Vital Ingredients for Being a Powerful Communicator

Is there any business skill that could be more important than learning how to effectively communicate?
I hope you said, “No, of course there isn’t!”

To communicate effectively you have to understand two things:
#1 What makes people do what they do
#2 How to deal effectively with different personalities
All communications have the same desired outcome. You want to reach your goal-which means you want someone to say yes. So, communication and sales are really the same thing in the end. They are both about the quality of the conversation you have with another person.
If you have a conversation of poor quality, you’ll never reach your desired outcome. Being a poor communicator can be very expensive.
How good of a communicator are you?
Not sure…Think back over the times someone has asked you out on a date or you’ve asked someone out. What was the difference between the times you said yes, or got a yes, and the times you said no? It was the quality of communication.
It doesn’t matter if it was through words or actions. If you were the one doing the asking, it all came down to if the person felt understood. If you knew what was important to them and you knew how they liked to be communicated with. If all that was good, they felt that you had something in common and gave you a chance.
Whether that turned into a successful relationship or not depended on your ability to continue to communicate to him/her in a way that they understood.
The golden rule of being a great communicator is that nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care.
If you are speaking to someone about something that doesn’t interest them, you won’t get too far. If you are speaking to them in a style that doesn’t fit their personality, you won’t get anywhere either.
I’d like to help you become so sought after that people are coming to you asking to do business with you. To make that happen you have to set yourself apart from everyone else.
You want all of your potential clients to recognize that you are different. Chances are you aren’t the only person who does what you do in your area. You probably have some competitors.
So why is someone going to do business with you rather than someone else?
What do you have to offer that your competitors don’t?
Have you noticed there are people making a tremendous amount of money doing what you do while others appear to be working really hard and not getting anywhere?
So what’s the difference?
One thing we know is that people will do business with someone they like and trust rather than with someone they feel no allegiance to every time. So the question is, “How do I develop that kind of rapport in a short amount of time?”

Breast Thermography
I recently had a thermal image taken of my breasts. Medical Infrared Thermal Imaging or Thermography is digital imaging that shows heat changes in the body. The thermal images are taken by a trained practitioner and the detailed interpretation is done by a medical doctor. Thankfully my breasts were very “cool” all green or blue with no red, orange or yellow showing. Ovarian Cancer Symptoms
My friend Linda Adler in Bellingham WA has become quite a resource and advocate for early detection of ovarian cancer. Linda recently discussed the symptoms of ovarian cancer which are often misdiagnosed. Lower back or abdominal pain; frequent urination or urgent need to urinate; increased and abnormal abdominal bloating; the feeling of being full quickly after eating very little. Linda recommends getting a CA125 blood test as the best way to detect ovarian cancer. Pay for the test out of pocket - only $60. It could save your life.

What’s the #1 Skill You Need To Be Successful?

There are only 2 reasons, other than money, why clients don’t say YES.
#1 They don’t understand the information presented.
#2 They don’t see how it benefits them.
And the only way you’re going to know is by asking questions. Becoming a powerful communicator is the number one skill you need to be successful. The best part is that this is an easy and painless way to catapult your business to the top.
You can learn how to communicate effectively with anyone, really.
To be incredibly successful, you need to realize the person who makes the most money is the best communicator. Learn the principles of communication and practice them. Perfect the principles before you worry about learning specialized techniques for your particular business.
The communication skills you need to be successful in earning money are the same skills you need to be successful in any area of your life. I can tell you for a fact that the people you’re going to be talking to don’t care if you know every little thing about your topic, they care that you care about them.
If you show that you care about who they are, and what they need, and what they want, they will be incredibly forgiving of your level of knowledge of the product, or technique or whatever you’re discussing. Right from the beginning, even if you don’t have everything all figured out, you can be very successful just by caring about the people that you’re talking to.
One of the things that I learned from Zig Ziglar back in the 70’s was that people don’t care what you know until they know how much you care. The communication skills that you need to be successful in your business you need to be successful in your life.
I understand you don’t want to be a salesperson, but nothing happens in your life without someone saying yes to what you want to have happen. That’s how you get a job, get a date, the place you live, everything.
If you want to be in control of what happens in your life rather than being influenced by the agenda of other people, you need to be a powerful communicator.
How do you create lasting relationships? You become a powerful communicator!
How do you get your message out? You become a powerful communicator!
How do you become a leader in your field? You become a powerful communicator!
How do you build a roster of clients? You become a powerful communicator!
How do you build a successful business? You become a powerful communicator!
How do you create the life of your dreams? You become a powerful communicator!
There is nothing you can become successful at without becoming a powerful communicator. Even a mime can’t be successful without being a powerful communicator; they just don’t do it with words. They do it with feelings and
actions.
Wouldn’t your life be easier if you were clearly understood by everyone you encountered, all day long?
Think about how often you are frustrated by not being able to get your point across, or trying to persuade someone to do what you need to have done when it just doesn’t seem to be as important to them as it is to you. It doesn’t matter if the conversation is with a client, your boss, your employees, your children, your spouse, or a clerk in a store.

I’ve been a Mac person for the last 3 years and lately Entourage, my email program, has been crashing a lot-3 times in the last 20 minutes! And because I was making notes for today’s article in the calendar item, they are all gone. This is one of those times I hate my computer.
Do they make computers so that days before your warranty expires it automatically dies? I’m beginning to wonder because this is an all too familiar story and now it appears to be happening to me. I believe my warranty expires in 3 days.

Are Your Beliefs Stealing From You?

For the last month I’ve been revisiting some classic business books. Among them “Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude”“Think and Grow Rich” and . The first time I picked up these 2 books was 30 years ago and I don’t even know how many times I’ve read them.
As I read these books I also read Robert Kiyosaki’s “The Business School” and re-read Eckhart Tolle’s “A New Earth”. They all fit together in their message better than it may appear on the surface.
Broke people let their out-dated beliefs steal their income, and by extension of that, their life.
There are certain conclusions about the difference between wealthy people and broke people that have become generally accepted. Interestingly, even that fact doesn’t seem to motivate broke people to change their thinking or their actions.
To be clear, my definition of wealthy people is more than just having money. It’s being wealthy in mind and spirit. My definition of being broke is more than not having enough money. It’s having a lack mentality and actions that flow from the belief in lack.
One of those generally accepted ideas is that wealthy people are willing to do what broke people aren’t. That allows the top 3%, those wealthy people, to have more money than the other 97%.
If you’re not in that 3%, I have 3 questions for you:
What are you willing to do to become one of them?
Why aren’t you doing it now?
What do you believe they have done to become wealthy that you wouldn’t be willing to do?
These 3 questions and your answers go directly to your beliefs about what it means to be wealthy, or what you may call ‘rich’. If you’re paying attention, it will also tell you where you have some beliefs that are holding you back.
Another generally accepted idea is that there is no job that is beneath a truly wealthy person if it leads to their desired end result.
Broke people think almost everything they aren’t willing to do is beneath them, or said another way, they are better than that, or they deserve more.
Unfortunately you can’t take that attitude to the bank and cash it.
“The Business School” is Kiyosaki’s book talking about why he’s a big supporter of Network Marketing as a stream of income and the best business school for people who like helping people. I have to say I agree with him.
There is still so much old baggage and outdated beliefs connected with the word MLM. Do you even have an open mind when the topic comes up? Many broke people don’t.
But I’ve found that the vast majority of wealthy people are very open to hearing more about it. This was not always the case, but things are changing rapidly and the wealthiest people are usually the first to jump on a lucrative opportunity.
In fact a whole lot of the wealthiest people I know have had a Network Marketing stream of income working for them for many years before I was smart enough to listen.
There was a time when Robert Kiyosaki wasn’t open to it and for a long time neither was I. In the early 80’s I had a couple friends that drove a pink Cadillac, but I was a Realtor. I was a professional. I may have been making lots of money, but their was still a broke person running around in my head.
Then in 2001 I got into the information marketing business and met Robert Allen and Bob Proctor who both gave me the opportunity to join their Network Marketing teams, but I wasn’t interested in ‘that kind of thing’.
A couple years later I had the chance to be at the top of Jack Canfield’s team, but I passed again.
Before I finally saw the light myself I had been already been speaking in the Network Marketing industry and doing private mentoring for some high ranking people. My excuse then was that I couldn’t get involved with one company when I wanted to speak to all of them.
I finally had to admit I was being a snob and at the same time I was afraid of what my friends or peers would think if I said I joined a Network Marketing team.
But when I looked at all the top personal growth and business gurus who were involved in Network Marketing and found out how many more were quietly ‘doing the business’ I quickly got over my fear in favor of a lucrative opportunity. I was supported by a great team and now I support and mentor to those on my team.
And as I read Kiyosaki’s book this week, I found that it talked about the same principles of what it takes to be successful that are laid out by Og Mandino and Napoleon Hill. And surprisingly many of the principles of creating a new earth from a point of higher consciousness talked about by Eckhart Tolle.
So if you are in a place where you want a great business education and a terrific opportunity for personal growth, give Network Marketing a look. You may find that if you look in the right places, what you find is not your old idea of what you thought Network Marketing was.
Not all companies have a big start up cost. Many are less than an average quality home study program. So don’t let the things you think you know about the industry stop you from having a new stream of income on a part time basis. Take a look. I think you’ll like what you see.
There are companies today that provide a great education and income that starts when you do. And if you’re lucky and get into a great company with a great team to support you, you’ll find as Robert Kiyosaki says, “The Business School for People Who Like Helping People”.

Are you loving this fall weather? I sure am. Everywhere I go, and talking to those of you who are in all different areas, it seems like most everyone is having terrific weather this week. It’s such a great reminder of how some of the best things in life and the simple things that give us the most pleasure are free and available to everyone.
Life happens, be ready for it.
Set your goals high enough that they require you to stretch your comfort zone and you’ll be amazed what you can achieve. Ask yourself, “What’s the one thing I can change this year to create the life of my dreams?”
