How do you apply what you know?

What’s New
Have you ever noticed how when you get clear on what you want it starts to show up without you even telling anyone? I love it when that happens and it’s been happening for me lately in several areas of my life.

I’ve always enjoyed the time I spend working with Network Marketing teams from various companies. Over the last several years I’ve done private trainings in the Caribbean, spoken on their team cruises and done small group and private one on one mentoring for those higher up in companies.

Recently I’ve been getting a lot more invitations to speak, do courses and do interviews on MLM radio shows and I’m having a ball doing it! For example, just last week in the 60 minutes while I was doing an training I got a voice mail for doing another training and an email for a radio interview. I’d say my channel to the Universe is becoming very clear.

So, 30 years after I began my own superstar sales career in real estate, and 7 years after creating “Getting to YES Without Selling“, I’ve found a renewed passion for this topic. I really get excited about teaching people how to make as much money as possible while helping other people through some fabulous Network Marketing companies.

Especially in our current economy I’ve noticed many high level professionals are now involved in Network Marketing, as a cushion just in case, or because they are tired of constantly working harder to earn the same or less money and want a way out.

So if you are in a Network Marketing company and would like some additional training in bringing universal success principles together with the sales and communication skills you need to succeed, one of the projects I’m working on is putting together a program just for you!

I’d love for you to send me an email or comment below and let me know what your biggest challenge is as a Network Marketer or as someone looking at Network Marketing.

Also, if you haven’t received the 9 Steps to Getting to Yes Without Selling mini-course, go to http://LynnPierce.com and fill in your name & email in the upper right hand corner. That is a good place to start and it’s my gift to you.

Life happens, be ready for it.

Set your goals high enough that they require you to stretch your comfort zone and you’ll be amazed what you can achieve. Ask yourself, “What’s the one thing I can change this year to create the life of my dreams?”

How to Make the 80/20 Rule Work for You

September 17, 2009

You’ve heard of the 80/20 rule, haven’t you?  80% of the business is done by the top 20% of the people.  As you develop and grow your business, you’ll find that:

Baby entrepreneur

* 80% of your money is coming from 20% of your clients
* 80% of your money comes from 20% of your products or services
* 80% of your effort produces only 20% of your results

What would it mean if you flipped this to your advantage?

How do you put this information to work for you?

First, look at where you’re investing yourself.

Are you investing too much of yourself, your time and your effort in the 80% of your clients and your services that don’t bring you the majority of your income? Getting clear on where the payoff is in how you spend your time and with who can be a huge game changer for your business and your peace of mind.

Secondly, look at your attitude.

Develop an attitude that no matter what the situation, there are people who want your products and services and are happy to pay what you ask to get them. Then focus on the 20% of your products and services that are most highly valued by the 20% of your clients that are really producing your income.

Third, look at the vision that your attitude produces.

The top 20% of entrepreneurs are preparing for their day with a positive vision of what each day holds for them.  The rest are setting themselves up for a difficult day of dealing with uncooperative people who ask them questions they can’t answer and who don’t appreciate their service; they probably can’t afford their product and may not even be the person who is empowered to make the decision.  Guess how their day turns out?

Which attitude would you rather start your day with?  Your first choice is visualizing a client who is perfect for you, whatever that looks like in your business.  Or you can visualize the client that makes your day very unpleasant.  These are your choices.  Whether you realize it or not, you always have a picture in your head of what you expect each day.  Once you are consciously aware of it, you can change it.

So let me ask you, which visualization creates a situation where you can make some money today?

I think I know the answer, and yet everyday people go to work just knowing that the negative day is what they will experience.  They know this because they have been unconsciously programming themselves to achieve that goal just as I am asking you to begin the practice of actively visualizing exactly the opposite outcome for your day.

If you don’t consciously choose a positive proactive attitude, your sub-conscious programs that have been operating your life will continue to do so.  The only way to make a change in your life is to make a conscious decision.  It’s up to you to decide if the way you’ve been thinking is still working for you or if it’s time for a new approach.

Decide now that you are moving from the 80% to the top 20% and then to the top one percent.  It’s all up to you.  Everything it takes to get there is already inside of you.

Until next week, I’d love to hear your thoughts.  Just comment on this post on my blog at http://www.LynnPierce.com

How Envy Blocks Success

September 13, 2009

Wouldn’t it be great if everyone accepted the universal principle that abundance is unlimited and the more success you create the more you are given? Unfortunately, a large portion of our world operates under the premise that there is only so much to go around, and everything someone else gets, takes his or her share away.

This lack mentality is prevalent in our society. Look at the joy the press gets out of building someone up into a celebrity only to then find something else to report that will bring them down a notch or two.

Envious people say that Bill Gates stole the program that was the beginning of Microsoft.  Successful people give him credit for recognizing it’s potential, buying it at a great price and then building it into an empire.  If envious people gave credit where credit is due, what excuse would they have for not having accomplished more in their life?

As a successful person, you most likely aren’t a victim of envy towards someone else’s success.   But you may know people who are, and they could use your help.  They may be family members, friends or co-workers who don’t understand why they aren’t getting ahead. You could even be experiencing them directing the negative emotion of envy toward you.

Envy comes from low self-esteem. If you feel good about yourself and your talents, you have no reason to be envious of what someone else achieves.  Low self-esteem keeps people from being happy for the success of others. They see every success of someone else as an indictment of their own inadequacy and are usually so busy beating themselves up that they don’t care to congratulate anyone else.

If envy is your block to success you may take it as a personal affront that if a colleague is achieving success, it somehow prevents you from doing the same.  Or you may be the recipient of envy with a friend who gets a little cold towards you once you are happy in a relationship while they still aren’t. Or, a co-worker who takes little stabs at you behind your back because you are either making more sales than they are or getting a promotion and they aren’t.

How Can You Help?

The best way to turn around envious people and help them to see the light is to be generous with them.  Even if they’re left shaking theirs heads, thinking you’re crazy, be friendly and supportive.  Congratulate them when something good happens, encourage them to go for their dreams and applaud their successes along the way.

Show them you aren’t one of those “glass half empty” people.  Be the example that shows them success isn’t a pie with only a few pieces, but a never-ending buffet.  I can tell you from personal experience that it’s only a matter of time before they start feeling better about themselves.  Their hearts will start to open and you can help make that happen.

There are many people realizing achievements they deserve to be congratulated for on a daily basis-and chances are they don’t get even one kind word.

Be the person who changes that for them.  Go out of your way to let someone know you think they are doing a great job.  Show them what they’re doing makes a difference and you recognize their effort.  Not only do you recognize it, you appreciate it.

The joy you get from being responsible for putting a smile on someone’s face is enough, but you will also be building their self-esteem and their belief that people can be truly happy for their success without having an ulterior motive.

They might just go out and brighten someone else’s day.  Maybe yours.

How do you serve?

What’s New
I can’t believe it’s September already, how about you? That means your goals for this year are almost 75% complete, right?

If you answered that with, not exactly, not even close, or worse yet, what goals?…maybe you could use some help.

I had lunch with a friend I hadn’t seen in a couple years last week and she asked me what kind of mentoring I was getting right now? She didn’t ask me if, she asked me on what areas. She knew that was a given. any successful person is always getting coaching or mentoring. The only question is which area are you focusing on at any particular time?

To be effective you want to be laser focused on what you need help with and then find someone you connect with to help you get it done. I offer private and small group mentoring if you would like my help.

The July 17th ezine had the article “How to Pick Your Next Mentor”. You can find that article posted at:

Are You Sure Your Customer Service Isn’t Causing Cancellations?

September 8, 2009

Customer service means different things to different business owners. But the one fact that is true whether you are a one person business or a multi-national corporation is that the quality of your customer service can be your biggest asset or your biggest liability.

So ask yourself, “Do I know absolutely, for sure, that my customer service is my biggest asset?

Because if it’s not, you have no idea how much money that could be in your bank account is coming in and going right back out-faster than the tide.

Customer service is a vastly underrated job. Most business owners have a distorted view of the role customer service plays in your bottom line.

You spend years building your business; time, effort and more often than not, huge amounts of money to get clients or customers through your marketing. Then when prospects arrive; you, your website copy or possibly sales people and affiliates you pay a commission, make the sale.

That’s it. Money in the bank. You’re done, right? Customer service is there to take care of any problems that come up and that can be automated or outsourced to a third world country.

Wrong!

Untrained, unsupervised, under-educated in your business, customer service people can run you out of business.

It doesn’t matter if your business is done one on one in person or if it’s a completed automated online purchase. One bad customer service person, email, auto-responder or support ticket system can undo any relationship, good will or great promise of your product or service faster than you can process their credit card.

And just as importantly, a good one can bring you more referrals, more repeat buyers and deeper relationship than you could ever get on your own.

So which do you have?

After the 25 years I spent in my previous career training sales people day in and day out, I can tell you that at least 98% of businesses are shocked to find big gaping holes in the customer service that money is poring out of.

In the last month I have heard diverse experiences while I researched this topic specifically with online marketers. I’ve been asking around a lot to find out how people feel and what impact the way their transaction was handled had on them. What I got was horror stories on all formats of customer service.

Here’s one business owner that’s losing money unnecessarily due to his customer service system.

An email response to a specific question about how to use what she had just purchased came back with a terse paragraph re-stating what was purchased and the return policy along with this statement, “As you did not cancel within the 30 days, you were billed the fee.” And then they answered the question by sending her to an FAQ page she had no access to before.

Since the purchase had just been made, that statement didn’t even apply. But the tone of the response and the addition of that mis-information led the buyer to feel uneasy. That shifted her from being an excited new customer, who already intended on buying more from this person, to someone who returned the product.

When questioned about why, she said that even though she did like the product, she questioned if she missed something because obviously there must be lots of people returning it, so just to be safe she wanted to return it while she still could.

How sad is that? Based on income statements made from this one product I would say it’s probably taking mid-six figures out of his bank account ever year. I guarantee you the business owner looks at the cancellation rate as part of doing business and isn’t looking for how to lower it, because this cause would be easy to spot and fix. Many are, but business owners are blind to them or just don’t know the psychology of the transaction well enough to know what to look for.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I received an email recently from someone who has been online for many years. I have a feeling he’s experienced this problem with others and its avoiding it upfront by sending out a declaration of what he stands for in his business so you know what to expect from him. He even included his phone number, his assistants name and invited people to pick up the phone.

I’ve never received anything like it before. If he could have heard me I would have stood up and given him a round of applause!I found it so refreshing that I’m now paying more attention to his emails and his product offerings.

So which reaction does your customer service elicit? How much is it costing you to not know for sure? It’s time for you to recapture some of the money that’s leaking out of your customer service department.

If you would like my help with this in your business, I do consulting and training on customer service. Send me an email and let’s talk.

Until next week, I’d love to hear your thoughts.  Just comment on this post on my blog at http://www.LynnPierce.com
