What’s New
What a week I had. Besides spending time with my beloved dogs in Scottsdale I got to visit with some friends and have an in person session with one of my private mentoring clients. I normally work over the phone, but we both were going to be in Scottsdale so it was fun to get together.
The heat in Arizona affects me much more now that I’ve gotten used to the cooler temperatures of living at the beach. But every morning I’d have my breakfast outside while it was still in the 70′s.
I’d watch the rabbits scamper around the yard because the dogs are too old to see them and chase them away anymore. The quail families start at 5:30AM very vocally walking across the wall surrounding the property and all the different kinds of birds are in the tress. It really is like a symphony of singing all morning. I absolutely love it!
And then in the middle of all that I got a horrible case of food poisoning that knocked me out for 4 days. I’ll spare you that story.
I’ve been doing a lot of reading the last few months and so many great books are coming across my desk that I’ll be telling you about a few new ones in the next couple weeks. I hope you had a chance to get a copy of The Heart of Marketing last week.

How to Create a Business that’s Simple, Easy & Effortless

There’s a song that says, “Life is a highway and I want to ride it all night long.” Well, some people enjoy the drive, or the ride, and some people are constantly whining and asking, “Are we there yet?”
So it goes in life as well. One of the keys I live by that I discuss in my book, “Breakthrough to Success; 19 Keys to Mastering Every Area of Your Life”, is to enjoy the journey. The way I interpret that is to get on for the ride.
And it’s up to you if the ride is bumpy or smooth. Some people always have a bumpy ride filled with one pothole after another. Their road is constantly under construction and they’re driving down the side that hasn’t been repaired yet. Do you know people like that? And, according to them, it’s never their fault.
On the other hand, there are some folks that seem to have such an easiness about everything that comes their way. So, continuing with the metaphor, they’re driving down that perfect newly paved road and they’re the only car on the road. It’s like they have their own private freeway to their final destination.
Whether you’re driving an old junker down the road filled with potholes wondering if you’re there yet, or if you’re in a brand new Bentley convertible listening to smooth jazz with the wind blowing through your hair as you glide down the road, is up to you…literally.
It works the same way with your business. And again, which scenario you live out is completely up to you.
So why not create a business that is cruising down the freeway; a business that’s simple, easy and effortless?
There’s always 2 ways to get from point A to point B. You can do it the long, hard and painful way, or you can do it the simple, easy and effortless way.
When I say effortless, I’m talking about no pain, no strain, enjoyable and fun.
How do you get this kind of business?
You look at who you really are, what you’re here to do and figure out how you’re going to do it. The answer to how you do it, if you’re doing it in alignment with your soul’s purpose, will be simple, easy and effortless. That’s just how the world works.
Think about it in terms of that freeway trip again.
I drive from my home at the beach to Arizona every month. It’s 6 hours. Depending on how you feel about driving, that could be fine or that could look like a horrible way to spend a day. I enjoy it. If I didn’t enjoy it I would fly.
I love that quiet time in the car, enjoying the scenery, watching the changing landscape. Taking the extended time to listen to a complete audio series or uninterrupted phone call time, or just singing to my iPod (which I should only do when I’m alone). Totally up to me. But I enjoy the drive every time.
Why is it so enjoyable?
I’m following a proven course of action. If I was doing it without a plan, I’d be anxiously watching every road sign and wondering where I will eat, where I will get gas, where my next turn is. I’d be totally distracted. I couldn’t enjoy the scenery because I would be completely pre-occupied with basic navigation skills.
But I know exactly where I’m going. I know how I’m going to get there. I have a educated estimate on how long the trip will be. I know what I will encounter along the way. I know where I can stop for gas. I know where I can stop to eat. I know landmarks that tell me if I’m on track to reach my destination by my expected time line.
Is this starting to sound familiar?
It should. Because this is exactly the same experience you would have if you had created a blueprint for your business. You’d have that same road map that flows effortlessly, that’s simple and easy.
I’m not ever going to end up half way to Scottsdale, sitting in McDonald’s in Yuma, ready to give up and turn around because I’m not sure what to do next…or not sure that this will really work or if I’ll end up in Scottsdale. Or if Scottsdale is really where everybody else thinks I should be headed this time of year.
That would be crazy. And yet smart entrepreneurs just like you give up every day on having a simple, easy and effortless business because they are guessing at where they’re going and hoping the road they’re on will take them there.
Or it could be that you’re not sure what you’re doing now will even get you where you want to go, you’re moving forward blindly and hoping.
Or it could be that you’ve been spinning around in circles with too many voices telling you where you should go and what you should do and how you should do it, instead of finding your own voice to listen to.
Get in the driver’s seat of your own vehicle in life and in your business. And consciously chose to move from the lane with the potholes over to the smooth road and feel the breeze flowing through your hair as you enjoy the scenery. Let your life and your business be simple, easy and effortless. It really can be.
It’s time for you to enjoy a simple, easy and effortless business, don’t you think?

But, it’s equally true that by consciously designing your life before you have all that cash, you can start living large right now. For more than 30 years I have been consciously creating the blueprint for my life and helping others do the same. Over that long period of time the economics of my life have shifted from time to time, like most people’s have.
The one thing that has been consistent is my lifestyle. There were times, like 1981 when I lived in Ft. Myers, FL and the real estate economy tanked. All the real estate sales I had pending collapsed and so did my income. And yet event though I wasn’t working for a few months I was going to Long Boat Key in Sarasota, staying at a luxury resort and drinking Dom Perignon at the Long Boat Key Club most nights.
And I was 25 years old! I’m not telling you this to brag, I want to make a point. I’ve always been reluctant to talk too much about my lifestyle, maybe it’s my midwestern roots, But I think it’s important to give you examples to show you how anybody can do this. And you can do it right now, even if the economy is not your best friend right now.
Can you imagine being 25, single, living in a state with no family and basically unemployed and instead of being in a total state of panic, living the high life? And yet I had the confidence to do that because I was already very clear in my life blueprint. That plan allowed me to find a way to still live the life of my dreams even when I wasn’t working and had no idea how long the real estate market was going to be in the tank.
I was able to do all kinds of things that your average 25 year old would never even dream was possible for them. And I was living a better lifestyle than people that had 10 times the income that I did. So money is definitely not the only factor.
I can tell you from decades of studying the differences between happy people and unhappy people, successful people and unsuccessful people and people with tons of money and those who have less, that money is not the even the main ingredient to creating the life of your dreams. Clarity and having a plan is the main ingredient to living the life of your dreams today.
Besides leafing through The Robb Report and dreaming, what action are you taking to map out exactly what you want your life to look like when you have millions? Assuming that millions is a goal of yours.
The point is, what are you doing to create that lifestyle today?
What? Did I hear you saying, “Nothing”?
That’s OK, because I can guarantee you that it’s the same answer at least 80% of people you would ask would give!
I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to wait to hit some magic number to live the rock star exciting life or the quiet zen life, or the life where you get to spend days on end focused on your kids. It’s your life, you decide what the most amazing life of your dreams looks like to you.
That’s the first step, getting a clear focus on the real life you want to have, not the day dream picture of a fantasy, that when it comes down to it, doesn’t really appeal to you at all.
And once you know exactly what your idea of ‘the life of your dreams’ is, you create a step-by-step blueprint for creating it right now. The most amazing part is that over and over again I find that the minute you have that clarity and you see your own blueprint in front of you, the rest comes pretty easy, if you let it.
In fact, most of my clients find that they can start living the life of their dreams right now, incrementally and that more and more of it manifests almost effortlessly in some totally surprising ways.

What’s New
I hope the weather where you live is as beautiful as the weather I’m enjoying here at the beach this week. I spend most of my day outside & when I’m working, if at all possible I work on my patio. Which has created a little bit of a problem; my arms are tanner than I think they’ve ever been and it’s starting to look a little funny. I’m not one for the fake tanning stuff-don’t like chemicals so I’ll have to focus on evening out my tan the old fashioned way.
Thursday I had lunch with my friend Neal Battaglia who came down from the bay area. This is a great example of ‘Power Connecting’, which Dr. Fern Kazlow will be talking about at Empowered Women’s Business Summit. Do you have your ticket yet?

Anyway, Neal and I have never met, but I’ve known him for a year now. Last April I attended Frank Kern’s Mass Control. After the event someone put up a Facebook group of who was there and Neal connected with me through Facebook.
Now, I’m not in the habit of meeting personally with people I meet on Facebook, but Neal and I have been talking regularly through Facebook since. He’s asked questions and advice from time to time and I’m happy to help. He’s been trying to get down here for a few months and now we’re meeting today.
Who knows what will come of this meeting? The bigger question is, “Who could you be power connecting with that could make a difference in your life or you could make a difference in theirs?”
I could go on and on about the importance of power connecting on and offline and have many stories of how I owe so much of my career to the connections I have made in very simple ways.

How Many Masks Do You Wear?

Most people have several masks they wear. There’s the mask of who you are in your love relationship, the mask of who you are with your kids, other family members, your friends, your boss, your co-workers, and your public mask that strangers see. In fact most of us wear so many masks we aren’t even sure who the real self is.
It takes a lot of introspection to recognize the masks and then a concentrated effort to take them off.
Why do you have masks in the first place?
They offer you protection from rejection by putting on the face you think the people in each of those situations want to see.
Have people ever made any of these comments to you:
“You seem so different outside of work.”
“You’re a completely different person when you are away from your —–.”
“You act totally different when you get around —– .”
You hear these comments because your masks change around different people and situations. Or if you are lucky, you’re to the point of trust in the relationship where you are actually reducing or taking off the mask with that person.
It’s a lot of work to keep up the masks you wear. It takes a lot of energy. I want to run a few thoughts by you that may have pushed you into keeping your masks on. I’ll tell you that I’ve had all these thoughts at different times in my life.
· Have you ever felt that people won’t like you when they find out who you really are?
· Have you ever been afraid that your success or the promotion you got won’t last once people find out you really aren’t talented enough?
· Have you ever thought your happiness was just too good to be true and you better watch out or it would all go away because you didn’t deserve it?
· Have you ever sabotaged yourself with these self-defeating beliefs or others like these?
As you grow and learn to love yourself, these masks will start to shrink and then go away completely. Different ones will leave as your confidence in those areas increases. That doesn’t mean a negative thought won’t pop into your head from time to time, but you won’t buy into it anymore. Instead, you’ll say to yourself, “Where is that coming from? I sure don’t feel that way anymore.”
This is one reason why it’s so important to do a personal inventory of your life. The first step is to take some time and look at what is in your life right now. Take inventory of yourself.
Personal Inventory:
· Why are you in the relationships you are?
· Why are you doing the work you are doing?
· Why are you working at the particular place you are?
· Why do you spend your free time the way you do?
· Why do you live where you live?
Your first thought may be, “I don’t know. It just happened.” But that’s not true. Every step of the way that leads you to where you are right now was a matter of choice. A choice to say yes or no to each situation as it came up.
Once you recognize this and take responsibility for where you are in your life you can look at each aspect of your life and see what is serving you and what isn’t. That’s step two.
Step three is to make a conscious decision what you want to change on what you want your new result to be. If you don’t know your desired result today, enroll in the next start date for the teleseminar series, “How to Create a Vision for Your Life.” For now, it’s enough to declare that you want something better.
Look at what’s going on in your life and if the way you are living and the things you have attracted into your life are still working for you.
If you are growing, you’re constantly changing and you need to stay on top of your progress by having a step-by-step process for tracking where you are in your life and where you are going. Once you know where you want to go, the people and resources you needed will appear according to the level of commitment you have to make it manifest.
